A firecracker ban in Davao City has reached its 12th year.

Police said they caught three people violating the firecracker ban while two more were caught using firearms indiscriminately.

Since the imposition of the ban, the number of firecracker-related injuries in Davao City has dropped to less than 5 every year.

One of the latest victims is a 14-year-old boy who was injured after picking up a piccolo.

Instead of firecrackers, authorities are encouraging residents to blow horns during the Torotot Festival on from December 31 to January 1.
