Mexico Marks 8th Month Anniversary of Ayotzinapa Disappearances

On Monday the eight-month anniversary of the forcible disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa Teachers' Training College students was marked by demonstrations in several cities across Mexico. Family members of the 43 Ayotzinapa students led four simultaneous marches in Mexico City, tying up the city center. The demonstrators demanded justice and called on the government to speed up its investigations into the case. They also called for a boycott of the upcoming June 7 mid-term elections, tapping into widespread disgust with the country's political system fueled by the all-pervasive corruption and impunity. Last month, Mexico's transparency agency ordered the declassification of government files on possible military participation in the Ayotzinapa events, but thus far the archives have not been made public.
