Despite a ceasefire agreed upon in February, the fighting in eastern Ukraine continues, although at a lesser level. TeleSUR’s special correspondent in the Donbass region accompanied pro-Russian militia and civilians as they celebrated the defeat of fascism 70 years ago. The famous “Ghost Brigade” leading the parade is also leading the fight in the civil war against Kiev. Marching behind them are relatives of soldiers killed 70 years ago or just last year. For 20 years, the parade was banned by the government, a prohibition considered an insult by many people in the Donbass area who are of Russian origin, speak Russian, or identify with a shared past in the Soviet Union. The international volunteers participating in the parade are supporting the Lugansk People’s Army. teleSUR
