Follow the music, admire the art, place yourself inside historic architecture, in Telesur's "Cultura Latina". This week's program, hosted by Mauricio Izquierdo, begins in Quito, with a visit to La Cuchara de San Marcos. Located in downtown Quito neighborhood of San Marcos, La Cuchara is both a restaurant that specializes in vegan and vegetarian cuisine with an Ecuadoran twist and a cultural center which offers courses in vegetarian cooking and an art gallery using recycled materials. The family owned venture seeks to reach sustainable practices to both customers as well as San Marcos neighborhood residents. Then it's off to Lima, for the International Open Street Theater Festival. The week-long festival is held in Comas, one of the poorest neighborhoods of the Peruvian capital. It is based on interacting with the community and showcasing art as an alternative to violence and crime. teleSUR
