The policeman accused of the murder of a father and son in Singapore last week appeared in court today where he was charged with two counts of murder. Sergeant Iskandar Bin Rahmat was arrested in Johor Bahru on Friday, two days after the dramatic scenes that resulted in the death of Tan Chee Heong, 40, and the discovery of the body of his father Tan Boon Hee, 67, at his home in Hillside Drive.

Tan Chee Heong, 40, was run over by his father's car and dragged down a busy road for around a kilometer before coming unstuck near Kovan MRT station. Police arriving at the scene then followed the trail of blood to the family house on Hillside Drive, where they found the body of his father, Tan Boon Hee, who had been fatally stabbed. Prime suspect Iskandar Bin Rahmat then fled across the border into Malaysia, where he was arrested on Friday evening.

The motive for the murder is unclear, but Bin Rahmat was heavily in debt. The two reportedly became acquainted last November after Bin Rahmat worked on a case concerning the theft of a safety deposit box belonging to Tan.
