A car bomb exploded outside a mosque in the city of Riffa, in kingdom of Bahrain on July 17. Worshipers were attending evening prayers around 8.30 p.m. at a Sunni mosque located in an area of the city where the royal family lives. The attackers hid a large gas cylinder inside a vehicle in the car park. The car bomb exploded, damaging several other vehicles, but no one was hurt.
No group in the majority Shi'ite country has yet claimed responsibility. The attack was condemned by the main Shi'ite opposition group, Wefaq, as well as government officials including King Hamad bin Issa al-Khalifa.
