German authorities are scratching their heads after 10-year-old boy discovered a well-preserved mummy in a sarcophagus in the corner of his grandmother's attic.
A CT scan reveals a human skull with an arrow sticking out the left eye socket as well as a torso and arms crossed at the front.
The boy's father, Lutz-Wolfgang Kettler told the media that may have brought the mummy back with him as a souvenir after a trip to North Africa in the 1950s.
It get's stranger, however. A German dentist who was there at the screening said that the bandages used on the body was machine woven and likely made sometime in the last 100 years.
What's more, a pathologist told German media that where the bones are real, the mummy itself is a fake and is comprised of bones from one or more human bodies.
Although the actual story behind the strange mummy is still a mystery, authorities said that they would investigate the matter until more details surface.
"We'll wait until we know how old the bones are," police spokesman Frank Bavendiek told German news agency DPA. "If they are a few hundred years old, then it's a mummy and we won't investigate."

„Nach ersten Untersuchungen gibt es Hinweise, dass die Mumie 2.000 Jahre alt ist", sagte Staatsanwalt Lutz Gaebel am Mittwoch. Um ganz sicher zu sein, werde aber weiter untersucht. Dabei sollen auch externe Experten helfen. „Wenn die Ergebnisse dann so vorliegen, wie wir erwarten, ist es kein Fall mehr für die Justiz", sagte Gaebel.
