Mexican Deputy Interior Minister Luis Enrique Miranda did not attend a scheduled meeting with striking agricultural workers from San Quintin Valley in the northwestern state of Baja California, saying he was sick. The meeting was supposed to reach a settlement in the bitterly fought two-month long strike by the workers for a wage increase and better working conditions.
