A Hong Kong dock worker was killed instantly after he was crushed by shipping containers on Tuesday.
The accident, which happened at the city's Kwai Tsing container terminal, is believed to have been caused by negligence on the part of a crew member manning the gantry cranes towering above cargo containers.
The victim, 59-year-old Peng Guo Nin, was at the rear of a small van assisting a fellow Everbest Port Services colleague who was at the front of the vehicle. Without warning, three shipping containers came crashing down, and one hit the van, directly atop Peng.
The gantry cranes are typically equipped to hold a total of five shipping containers, but were at the time carrying six.
