A newlywed couple in Pennsylvania killed a man whom the wife had tricked through an online dating advertisement over Craigslist, strangling him and stabbing him repeatedly, authorities said last Friday. The couple told police that they just wanted to kill someone together.
Elytte Barbour told police before his arrest Friday that he and wife Miranda had planned to murder before but their plans didn't work out until last month when Troy LaFerrara replied to an online posting that promised companionship in return for money.
Elytte Barbour, 22 and Miranda Barbour, 18, both face criminal homicide charges in the death of LaFerrara. LaFerrara's body was discovered on Nov. 12 in an alley in Sunbury.
Elytte Barbour told authorities he hid in the backseat of the couple's SUV as Miranda picked up LaFerrara at a mall north of Harrisburg on Nov. 11. He told investigators that he wrapped a cord around LaFerrara's neck after being given a signal by his wife. Police said that Miranda Barbour then proceeded to stab LaFerrara 20 times.
Miranda Barbour told police that she bought cleaning supplies at a department store after killing LaFerrara, then picked up her husband and took him to the strip club to celebrate his birthday. However, authorities then said on Friday that Elytte Barbour said that he was the one that had purchased the cleaning products, which was backed up by surveillance videos. The couple used bleach wipes, towels and cleaning liquid to take out bloodstains from inside the SUV, police said.
