A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Friday for plotting a bomb attack in Melbourne.
Police received a tip-off from the national security phone line and began investigating the suspect nine days ago, Herald Sun reported.
Police raided the suspect's home on Friday afternoon. The suspect was leaving his home with a woman when he was stopped by police, the New York Times reported. He was then taken into custody.
"Had we not intervened, there was a real threat of action being taken," Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Phelan told the New York Times. Investigators found three improvised bombs inside the suspect's home.
Police did not confirm whether the incident had any links to Islamic extremism, Reuters reported.
