One child was killed and more than 12 others, most of them children, were injured on Wednesday after a car crashed into a packed child day care center in Florida.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the suspect, identified as Robert Corchado, was driving a silver Dodge Durango on Goldenrod Road, near Orlando at around 3 p.m.
As he was approaching the day care center in Winter Park Corchado crashed his vehicle into the rear of a Toyota Solara. The car slid sideways and hit the entrance of the center.
The car that crashed into the day care center remained lodged inside the building, Reuters reported, while Corchado fled the scene right after the crash.
Police later found a Dodge Durango parked in a driveway some 1.5 miles away from the scene. They believe it to be connected with the accident.
Two of the victims were treated at the scene, while the other were rushed to four different hospitals, where they were being treated for a variety of injuries, both severe and mild, according to Orange County Fire Rescue spokesman John Mulhall.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children confirmed the first death at about 6:45 p.m., but the female victim's name was not released.
Florida Highway Patrol said Corchado, sought by law enforcement officials, may be trying to board a flight out of Orlando.
