Fifteen people were injured after a passenger train derailed in northeastern China early on Sunday (April 13).

The train, which was travelling from the city of Heihe in China's Heilongjiang province derailed on its way to the provincial capital Harbin at 3:17 a.m.

Harbin's railway bureau described the K7034 passenger train, which was carrying 410 passengers, as an older model.

Five of the train's 12 cars derailed near the city of Suihua.

Injured passengers were rushed to local hospitals and are currently under examination. No deaths have been reported.

"All the train staff, on duty or not, struggled together to save the passengers when the accident happened," said staff member Feng Song, according to a CCTV report. "Someone smashed windows, and someone carried injured passengers outside. Then we evacuated all the passengers into the last car of the train, which is the rest room for train staff."

In a post on its official microblog, the Harbin railway bureau announced it was investigating the exact cause of the accident.
