Have you ever wanted to look like a Korean soap opera star? Yeah, me neither, but lots of other people do. Obviously, if that is your goal then the place to get work done is in South Korea, where one in five women under the age of 50 has had plastic surgery. There's just one problem, and it has to do with your passport.

Chinese women who visit South Korea in medical tourism tour groups have had problems re-entering China with their old passports. Sometimes the surgery is so radical that a person's appearance has changed beyond recognition. In 2009 a large group returning to Shanghai's Honqiao airport were delayed while Chinese border control officials scrutinized their faces for similarities to their passport photos.

In response, some South Korean clinics have begun issuing certificates to clients, hoping that delays at the border upon their return home can be avoided.
