Journalists working for CBS, Buzzfeed and Sky News were released after being held for hours by pro-Russian militants in Ukraine on Friday morning.
The reporters were heading for Slaviansk, which Kiev is trying to retake from pro-Russian separatists. They were stopped by pro-Russian militants at a checkpoint in Horlivka.
Clarissa Ward, CBS foreign correspondent, said that the militants blindfolded the journalists with cloth and masking tape and told them to board a van.
The group arrived at an unknown location after an hour's drive. The militants separated the male and female journalists and confiscated their possessions.
The captives were interrogated inside an occupied police building for one and a half hour. At least one male journalist was beaten before their release. The militants were discussing the possibility of using them as "bargaining chips" in future negotiations.
Hours later, another group of separatists told the militants to release the journalists, who were then allowed to remove their blindfolds.
All of the journalists have now safely arrived in Donetsk.
