Farzana Iqbal, 25, was beaten and stoned to death by her father and several male relatives outside the high court in Lahore, Pakistan on Tuesday for marrying the man of her choice.
The woman, who had been previously engaged to a cousin, broke it off to marry Muhammad Iqbal around a month ago, against the wishes of her family.
Outraged by the marriage, her father filed a complaint with the local police, saying that his daughter had been kidnapped.
As she arrived at the high court for a hearing related to the case, a group of men including her father and spurned fiance were waiting for them in cars.
The men then beat her to death with sticks and stoned her with bricks from a nearby building site.
After her death her father waited for police to arrest him, admitting his part in her death calling it a 'honor killing'. The other family members escaped.
So-called 'honor killings' are common in Pakistan. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said there were 869 such murders in the country in 2013.
