New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) announced Monday afternoon that a 10th victim from Sunday's Bourbon Street shooting has been identified. They also released footage of a "man of interest," urging anyone who recognizes the person to come forth and identify him.
A random shooting spree occurred in New Orleans' iconic Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, at around 2:45 a.m. on Sunday. According to witnesses, a dispute between two young men escalated into a shooting. The incident quickly went from bad to worse when one of the men decided to turn around and fire into the surrounding crowd.
The incident was captured on CCTV by a camera outside of Cat's Meow Karaoke bar. In the video, rapid and successive gunfire is heard, before dozens of people are seen seeking shelter in nearby bars.
Initially, the police said that nine people were shot and wounded. However, on Monday, NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas told the press that a 39-year-old man had been identified as the 10th victim. The man suffered minor chest injuries, but refused medical treatment. Of the nine original victims, four have been released from the hospital, four are in stable state, and one is still in critical condition.
Commenting on the incident, Serpas said, "These are two cowardly young men who chose to settle a dispute with total disregard for human life."
Police also released a video of a "person of interest" on YouTube. In the video, the man with short, dark hair in a short-sleeve t-shirt and dark pants is seen putting on a hat. Although this person has not yet been named a suspect, New Orleans police urge anyone who recognizes him to come forth and contact them.
