A Pennsylvania woman impaled herself on the spiky metal fence of a cemetery when she was reportedly running away from an attacker.
According to various reports, the incident happened Tuesday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m. Several motorists driving on Diamond Avenue in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, noticed a woman impaled on the fence of Hazleton Cemetery and waving frantically to passing cars.
Witnesses Amber Judge and Dorothy Molion were driving east on the road when they noticed the woman. They got off their cars to help the victim and also called the police. Another couple, Yadira Cortes and her husband, Jose Mendez, were driving west on Diamond Avenue when Mendez saw the woman and stopped his car in the middle of the road to help. Mendez supported the woman from behind so that she wouldn’t dangle off the ground before EMT workers and firefighters came.
After rescue workers came at around 4:44 p.m., they began to saw off the section of the fence that was embedded in the woman’s leg. The woman was placed on a stretcher with the metal spike still protruding out of her thigh minutes later.
The city’s fire Chief Brian Mandak told reporters they transported the woman to the hospital with the spike still protruding from her thigh “to prevent her from bleeding to death if the spike cut through an artery.”
