An eight-year-old boy died after shots were fired at his home in Detroit while he slept.
At around 1:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning Jakari Pearson lay asleep in his family home.
His family believes the shooter may have been a jealous suitor who the boy’s mother had recently broken up with.
Five shots were fired in rapid succession toward the house. Bullet holes in bricks and in the child’s second floor bedroom window were visible.
Police have not yet made any arrests, but are interviewing a “person of interest” found through community tips who did not voluntarily come forward.
The boy was hit in his mid-section and police arrived right away and waited with the family for an ambulance. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
