A man was kidnapped in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on Thursday morning, leading to a car chase and shootout between police and the kidnappers.
According to reports in ZH News and Journal NH, the husband of a bank manager in the city of Sapucaia do Sul was kidnapped by criminals travelling in a grey Ford Focus vehicle. The kidnappers then demanded R$200 million from the victim’s wife. The victim’s wife delivered the money to two men in a black Toyota Corolla, while her husband was released by their accomplices in the grey Ford Focus vehicle near a highway patrol post.
Police then launched a search in the area and spotted a black Toyota Corolla similar to the one used by the kidnappers at around 10 a.m. Kidnappers threw out caltrops to pierce the tires of the tailing police car. The two sides then engaged in a gun battle. One kidnapper was killed and another seriously injured.
Authorities were unable to retrieve the ransom paid by the victim’s wife.
