A Canadian woman was taken to hospital on Sunday after scaling a barbed wire fence in an attempt to stop a plane she thought her husband was aboard.
At roughly 8.30 a.m. the woman approached the Nova Scotia airport’s ten foot tall barbed wire fence which is festooned with video cameras, infrared sensors and motion detectors.
The woman reportedly received minor injuries from climbing the fence, but that didn’t stop her from continuing on her quest.
Airport control tower officials spotted her immediately, and called airport security and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to remove her from the tarmac.
She did not come into contact with any airplanes, but a small plane taxiing nearby was rerouted as a precaution. Airport security held her until RCMP took over.
As it turns out, the woman’s husband was not at the airport, and she was taken to the hospital for assessment. An RCMP official said charges will probably not be laid, and an airport security official said they will look into whether any security measures need to be adjusted.
