Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny ‘Football’ Manziel shot a middle finger towards the Washington Redskins sidelines after a third-quarter incompletion during Monday night’s 24-23 preseason loss.
Apparently, Washington wanted to have some fun with the former Heisman Trophy winner and get under his skin. Looks like they succeeded.
Manziel said that he exchanged words with some Washington players and that he should have been smarter.
“I felt like I did a good job of holding my composure throughout the night, and you have a lapse of judgement and slip up,” Manziel said.
Manziel wasn’t penalized, though he could have been for unsportsmanlike conduct or taunting with the one-finger salute.
Looks like Manziel took offense to some of the things Washington players were tossing his way. Luckily, when he flipped them off, it was caught by TV cameras and most of the Washington sideline.
Washington safety Ryan Clark was kind enough to tell everyone on Tuesday morning what set Manziel off on ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike.” “The statement was, ‘This isn’t college anymore and these people are faster than you are.’ He didn’t like it. And that was me cleaning up the statement. That’s pretty much what it was.”
Rather than take offense, Washington players mostly found it funny.
Washington also took the chance to show off their impression of Johnny’s show me the money sign after they sacked him.
Washington 2, Johnny Football 0.
