A Texas home invasion suspect was injured after a Houston homeowner opened fire when police did not arrive in time, early Tuesday morning.
Quinton Wood, a northwest resident of Silverglen Estates was on medical leave from the post office when he woke up to his doorbell ringing.
Wood heard a loud boom noise and that’s when he realized his front door was broken into.
He immediately called 911 and grabbed his gun, but by the time police arrived it was too late.
Wood caught Avery Powell, 25, in his bedroom closet, and begged him to stop and leave his home, but he did not listen.
The postal carrier had been robbed before and out of fear shot the thief once in his chest. Wood, still on the phone with 911, begged them to hurry.
Powell, was taken to a nearby hospital on a helicopter for his injuries, where he later went under surgery. The suspect who was has a lengthy criminal history has been charged with burglary of a habitation.
