Britain’s Ministry of Defense has announced that Royal Air Force warplanes have struck their first targets in Iraq on Tuesday. This comes four days after Westminster voted for military action to help international efforts against Islamist jihadis in Iraq.
According to a ministry spokesman, two GR4 Tornado fighter jets interrupted a surveillance mission to support Kurdish peshmerga fighters who were under attack from ISIS in northern Iraq.
Using information obtained from Litening III surveillance pods, an ISIS heavy weaponry position and a pickup truck were identified. The Ministry of Defense said a Paveway laser-guided bomb was used to attack the heavy weaponry position while a Brimstone missile was used to strike an armed pickup truck.
