A Texas nurse has died falling from a hoist while conducting an aerial rescue Tuesday, according to local reports.
Just after 10:00 p.m. Monday, Kristin McLain, 46, was dispatched to rescue a hiker, as part of a three-person crew, who had fallen near the Barton Creek Greenbelt in Austin.
McLain rescued the woman and was ascending back into the helicopter when her hoist became detached.
The seven-year STAR Flight veteran died due to injuries from the fall. It’s unclear how far or why McLain fell.
McLain was originally from Colorado and had worked for STAR Flight for seven years.
The woman being rescued remained attached to the hoist and has been transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to reports, The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting an investigation into McLain’s death.
