Police harassment: NY cops stop black parole officers at gunpoint in dashcam video - TomoNews

A recently-released video shows the moment Ramapo police officers held up a car full of black parole officers at gunpoint.

The four parole officers -- Mario Alexandre, Sheila Penister, Annette Thomas-Prince and Samuel Washington -- said they were mistaken for criminals.

“I could rest assured I was dead that day,” Penister said in an interview with ABC.

The state parole officers are now in the middle of a lawsuit against the Ramapo Police Department of New York.

All four officers were in town with an arrest warrant on an April morning of last year when someone called 9-1-1 to complain of a car full of people wearing bulletproof vests.

As several officers initiated the stop on the unmarked parole vehicle, another cop blocked traffic with his SUV, drew his pistol and used his hood for shelter. One police officer also held a rifle during the confrontation.

Alexandre, who was driving the parole car, got out with his hands up. He says he showed the cop his official badge, but the cop didn’t believe it was real.

The parole car was unmarked but had an official sign in the windshield.

The encounter lasted six minutes before the local cops figured out they had drawn their weapons on fellow officers of the law.

Local news organization The Journal News obtained the dashcam footage.
