French President Francois Hollande will chair the Caribbean summit on climate change slated for Martinique, to be held in advance of the 21st UN climate change conference scheduled for December in Paris. The summit will focus on the unique challenges faced by Caribbean islands, which are particularly vulnerable to climate change, and possible solutions adapted to the area as part of an ambitious and global binding agreement. The Caribbean islands account for only 0.3% of global greenhouse emissions and their leaders say they are prepared to walk out of the Paris meeting if the rich nations do not commit to significant reductions in their own emissions.
