This video lecture from Electrochemistry (F.Sc. first year Chemistry) covers the technique to balance a redox equation using Ion electron method in a basic medium. The method involves an initial separation of two half reactions taken from an ionic equation in which the overall charge is balanced by adding electrons respectively in the reduction and oxidation half reactions. The oxygen and the hydrogen atoms are balanced by the addition of water molecules and hydroxide ions in the basic medium as opposed to protons in an acidic medium.
