Baltimore: Obama Acknowledges Concerns Over Police Conduct

2015-04-29 8

Baltimore is under a one-week curfew that starts tonight. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake had previously expressed concern about calling out the National Guard, for fear of inciting violence, but Governor Larry Hogan said the Mayor waited to long to take action. U. S. President Barack Obama condemned all violence and theft in Baltimore, while acknowledging the systemic challenges facing the country. The President said there have been too many instances of police officers “interacting with individuals, primarily African American, often poor, in ways that raise trouble and questions.” In view of the fact that this happens once a week or two, he said, it is understandable why rights organizations and parents view this as a crisis, one that is not new. teleSUR
