Baltimore, Maryland is reeling following violent disturbances in inner-city neighborhoods after the funeral of African American police victim Freddie Gray. Community members are participating in the physical clean-up, but the social ramifications of yesterday's events remain as do the ongoing problems of systemic racism and police brutality. Authorities responded to the disturbances by militarizing the city, imposing a city-wide week-long curfew, sending in the National Guard, massively beefing up police presence, and declaring a state of emergency. Baltimore community organizer Michael Coleman explains the background to the events and prospects for the future. teleSUR
