Mexico: Anti-Corruption Bill Approved

Earlier this week, the Mexican Senate approved an anti-corruption bill giving greater power to agencies in charge of reviewing the use of public funds. Opposition lawmakers, however, charge that the legislation falls short of what is needed and continues the impunity enjoyed by high level politicians. Many Mexicans feel that the approval of the bill is a political plot designed to calm public sentiment in the light of recent corruption allegations and scandals, which have reached the highest echelons of power.
