Louis Michel: Some EU countries 'not willing' to take in refugees

2015-04-25 2

Louis Michel is a leader of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament, and a former EU Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid. He reacts to the latest migrant tragedies in the Mediterranean and discusses the jihadist threat in Europe. Louis Michel is the father of Charles Michel, the current Belgian Prime minister.

Louis Michel says he is "disappointed" by the outcome of the EU emergency summit last Thursday. He also regrets that some EU countries are “not very willing” to take in refugees.
However, the former Commissioner believes it is unfair to wholly blame Europe for the recent migrant tragedies. He underlines the fact that many African countries remain poor despite having "immense human and natural resources", forcing many to want to emigrate.
