A grassroots campaign is underway in Peru to legalize abortion in case of rape. A citizens initiative delivered a petition signed by 64,000 Peruvians calling for the measure, which forced parliament to debate the issue. Feminists report that Peru is number one in Latin America in the terms of the number of rapes, 80% of which are committed against minors. Slightly more than a third of teenage pregnancies are the result of rape. For now, the congressional debate has ended, without legislators voting on the measure. Rael Mora reports from Lima. teleSUR
