A team of scientists is arguing that a sixth mass extinction called the Capitanian event should be added to the current list of five.

A team of scientists believe they have identified the 6th worst mass extinction period and believe the current officially recognized list of five should be updated.

According to their recently published paper, the end of the Capitanian age, dated approximately 262 million years ago, resulted in enough losses on a global scale that it should qualify.
