Honduran Woman Wins Environmental Prize

Berta Caceres, a member of the Lenca indigenous group in Honduras is the winner of the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize. She won the award for her work in opposition to a hydroelectric dam promoted as a way to help a poor country move towards renewable energy supplies. According to Caceres, however, the project threatens to displace hundreds of indigenous people in Honduras, who use the river water for drinking, irrigation and fishing. teleSUR
