Colombia: FARC to Maintain Unilateral Cease-Fire

2015-04-21 3

Despite last week's clashes with government troops in the southwest state of Cauca, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) said it would continue to honor its unilateral cease fire. At the end of the 35th round of peace talks in Havana, the rebel delegation said it would maintain its cease fire as long as it is not attacked or besieged by government forces. Peace advocates argue that the way to avoid such incidents as occurred in Cauca is for the government to accept the FARC proposal for a bilateral cease-fire.
