Gunfights broke out between drug traffickers and police, and vehicles were set ablaze on Friday in Reynosa, one of Mexico's largest border cities, across from McAllen, Texas. Around 60 gunmen tried to rescue a leader of the Gulf Drug Cartel who had been arrested earlier and identified as Jose Tiburcio Hernandez. At least three suspected assailants were killed and two state police were injured in the incident that brought half the city of Reynosa to a standstill. Hernández was reported to have controlled drug trafficking on the large part of Mexico's eastern coast. teleSUR
