Official Quakewiki Video - Quake - Aftershock for Quake - Exploding Wall - from The QuakeLab

We are starting to get a greater amount of interactive elements in Quake! This level features a new Hazard that is very akin to something in Duke Nukem 3d, walls that explode on contact with a Rocket Launcher. As this level is little more than a demonstration of this Hazard, there isn't really much to comment about.

It is important to note that it is intended for the player to use the Rocket Launcher and not the Shotgun. Using the Shotgun will eventually cause similar results, but the mechanics seem to be intended for a direct explosion. Shooting the Wall enough times will cause it to raise (it is actually a Shootable Wall) to reveal the alcove I enter at the end of the video that is representative of the hole that we created when the wall blew up. Radioactive Containers are used for the actual explosion.

Overall, the effect is pretty neat, though it is a shame that it only works properly when you use a Rocket Launcher. Still, it is pretty amazing to see Walls that can explode, giving Quake the interactivity that Duke 3d supposedly was superior in.
