Colombia: Gov't orders resumption of airstrikes against FARC

2015-04-16 3

Despite confirming that peace talks would continue, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos ordered a resumption of airstrikes against Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) positions. The decision comes in the wake of a rebel ambush of an elite government military patrol, which left 10 soldiers dead and 17 wounded. FARC spokesman Pastor Alape expressed regret over the incident but said that behind it was the government's inconsistency in refusing to accept the rebel proposal of a bilateral cease-fire. teleSUR
