Families of victims who were on board the Sewol ferry that sank one year ago off the coast of South Korea marked the anniversary by visiting the spot where it capsized.
A yellow buoy floating in the sea with the word “Sewol” written on it in Korean is the only reminder of the disaster in the vast expanse of sea.
Some 304 of their loved ones died on board. Many were students from the same high school.
“This makes me imagine the moment when my child was killed with no time to scream,” said Kim Jeong-Hye who lost her son in the tragedy. “It is still hard for me to understand what our beautiful children did wrong and why we should let them go.”
“I feel like I’m going crazy, because I miss my daughter,” said Kim Chilseong. “I don’t know what more I can say. I miss her so much and it breaks my heart.”
