Interviews from Caracas – Georges Zade, on Yemen

2015-04-15 29

Today our host Cody Weddle interviews international analyst Georges Zade on the current turbulence in Yemen, at a time when Houthi rebels have taken over the country and a Saudi-led coalition continues to unleash airstrikes, leaving hundreds dead and wounded. The conversation begins with the rise of the Houthi group and their struggles for social and educational improvements as part of the so-called Arab Spring. Zade points out the geo-strategic interests in Yemen shared by so many forces anxious to gain or maintain access to the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, including Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United States. The analyst notes that the calls for a diplomatic response have come from Iran and Pakistan at a time when the Yemeni Army has begun to fight with the Houthi and is joined by 19 political parties in opposing the Saudi aggression. Zades that if Saudi Arabia continues with its military aggression against civilians, it will suffer a huge defeat at the hands of the Yemeni people, who will continue to resist foreign aggression in their drive to be an independent, sovereign nation. teleSUR
