Honduras: Dissident Journalists Under Threat

A new law was passed last week in Honduras to protect journalists and lawyers. But human rights advocates say the legislation in itself will not be sufficient to protect them. In the past 10 years, 51 journalists have been murdered, but as a result of structural impunity only four cases were even investigated. The mainstream press echoes this impunity by accepting the official version that the journalists were killed for any reason other than for being journalists.
