ISIS Vs USA: Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi “critically injured” in US-led airstrike

Islamic States’ top commander Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was reportedly critically wounded after the United States-led coalition launched a series of air strikes that targeted a meeting of ISIS leaders near Mosul on Friday.

Quoting unnamed tribal source, Dubai-based outlet Al Arabiya reported that al-Baghdad sustained serious injuries in the air strike.

An airstrike was launched on an Islamic State convoy that consisted of ten armed trucks. It was unclear whether the convoy was carrying al-Baghdadi at that time, Reuters reported. The strike injured at least 50.

Two witnesses told Reuters that an air strike destroyed a house, where Islamic State leaders were having a meeting, near the town of al-Qaim. Dozens of people were reportedly injured in the air strike.

It was not clear which air strike injured Al-Baghdadi, who has a $10 million-bounty on his head.

Air strikes will not be sufficient to deter the advance of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Iraqi forces face the urgent task of improving their performance, according to the U.S. military.

About 1,500 American troops will be deployed to Iraq to advise the Iraqi military.
