Olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps’ latest girlfriend was born intersex - a genetic condition that saw her possess male genitalia, but no testicles, while also having a uterus and no ovaries.
The woman in question, Taylor Lianne Chandler, recently revealed the information on her Facebook page.
According to the Intersex Society of North America, around 1 in every 1,500 to 2,000 babies are born with visibly atypical genitalia, while many others will have variations that go unnoticed until later in life.
Chandler, who underwent corrective surgery to become a woman in her early twenties, also posted that 'I was never a man, never lived as a man. No one can say they knew me as a man or produce a photo of me as a man.'
The National Inquirer reported that Chandler also said she never lied to Phelps as the subject of her unusual condition never cropped up during their conversations.
Her Facebook page, which is a virtual shrine to her relationship with Phelps, details how the two met on the dating app Tinder.
She also blabbed to the Inquirer about how the couple made love during halftime of a Baltimore Ravens game on their first date.
Taylor, who at 41 is more than a decade older than 29-year old Phelps, is now worried that the revelations will mean the end to their relationship.
Meanwhile, all American hero Phelps, who only just came out of rehab on Wednesday following a DUI incident back in September, may be heading back there real soon.
