School elevator plummets in Turkey, severely injuring 7 students who ignored the lift’s weight limit

2015-04-14 3

Seven teenagers were rushed to a hospital in Sakarya, Turkey after the elevator they were riding at their high school school plummeted three stories.

School officials from Anadolu Imam Hatip High School in the Geyve district reportedly blamed the students because the elevator was meant to hold four people at a time.

They said seven teenagers crammed in, causing the cables to become loose.

Paramedics took the students to Sakarya Training and Research hospital, where a spokesperson said there are “a lot of broken bones,” but that it’s too early to tell whether the students will recover.

The other five teenagers were sent home. The students are all between the ages of 15 and 16.
