Women in Saudi Arabia are restricted from doing many things and the list continues to grow.
Recently, restaurants in Saudi Arabia have posted signs stating that no single women are allowed inside without a male family member. Some restaurants have banned all women.
Restaurant owners say that the reasons they are banning single women are because their customers complain that the women’s voices are too loud and because they can be seen drinking, smoking and using their cellphones in public. The restaurant owners claim that these behaviors are dangerous as they can lead to incidents of flirting! Gasp!
The owners also point to these behaviors as a sign of mental instability in single women and they don’t want these crazy women bothering their customers.
Some of the most basic rights we take for granted such as driving are also denied to Saudi women. A woman is not allowed to legally drive until she is 30 and even then she must be accompanied by a male chaperone from her family.
Fathers often arrange marriages for their young daughters in exchange for a gift or dowry. Women in Saudi Arabia have very little control over their lives.
Despite the fact that the ban is unfair, it is also illegal. But restaurant owners insist they have the right to keep mentally unstable single women off their properties.
