Police searched Friday for a man suspected of shooting four students outside a high school in Portland, Oregon.

A 16-year-old girl was in a local hospital in critical condition, a 17-year-old boy was in serious condition and a 20-year-old man was in serious condition, said Portland police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson. A 19-year-old woman suffered a graze wound in the incident and was treated on scene, Simpson said.

Simpson said the suspects are three African-American males, all in their late teens to early 20s.

The shooting occurred about just before 12:15 p.m. at Rosemary Anderson High School, an alternative school with fewer than 200 students.

The shooter may be gang-related, but that does not necessarily mean the victims were affiliated with a gang, Simpson said.

Preliminary investigations show that there was some kind of argument that occurred before the shooting.

After being shot, at least three victims ran inside the school.

“I saw him stumble into the school holding his stomach, he said my brother’s name and then he fell to the ground,” one student told KATU.

The suspects left the area quickly on foot, Simpson said.

All the shooting victims were enrolled at the school. The victims were breathing, conscious and talking when they were taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Simpson
