French police taser aggressive chocolate-crazed monkey

Marseille police finally captured an aggressive Barbary macaque that had been bothering local residents on Tuesday.

Barbary macaques originate from North Africa and are listed an endangered species by the International Union for conservation of Nature. Investigators said the grumpy monkey was apparently being kept illegally before it was abandoned.

The animal had been living off of Kinder chocolates given to it by children. But it quickly became aggressive, perhaps due to malnutrition and mistreatment by some of the children.

Marseille police had received more than a dozen calls related to the monkey, who was reported scratching and hurting children at an elementary school. On Tuesday a patrol was sent to capture the monkey and managed to subdue it with a taser after a cop was bitten on the hand.

The monkey was sent to the Saint-Etienne animal protection association and is in good condition. He will be sent to a zoo exhibition after a quarantine.
