AirAsia flight QZ8501: Aircraft climbed too quickly, but no signs of foul play

2015-04-14 6

AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501, which crashed into the Java Sea on December 28 killing all 162 people on board, was climbing at least three times faster than a regular commercial flight.

Early investigations into the fate of doomed AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501 have shown that the aircraft was ascending at an excessive rate to evade storm clouds.

The aircraft was climbing at a rate of 6,000 feet per minute, commercial airliners normally only ascend 1,000 to 2,000 feet per minute.

Investigators have said the cockpit voice recording shows no signs of foul play, as they only feature the voices of the pilots. More time is needed to analyse the flight data as the recorder contains data from 72 previous flights.

The cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder have been sent to the NTSC laboratory, which is tasked with analysing the data.

Meanwhile, the search for the remaining bodies continues after days of bad weather.
