A 13-year-old boy has been arrested in the fatal stabbing at an East Los Angeles middle school.
Steven Cruz, 14, a former student at David Wark Griffith Junior High was stabbed in the torso Friday afternoon, just minutes after school let out for the weekend.
Cruz was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His parents said Cruz now attended Garfield High School a half-mile away, and they were unsure as to why Cruz was on the middle school's campus.
The campus went on lockdown, and for several hours, students and staff who stayed for after school activities were forced to stay inside the school as police secured the area.
The suspect, who may be gang affiliated was arrested on Saturday. A large memorial sits in front of the school in memory of Steve Cruz.
What do you think about how young the suspect and victim are? Have you heard of instances of gang violence in junior high school where you live? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.
